OT: Web comics to check out

Postby Cheetaur » Wed Aug 24, 2005 7:10 pm

Hey there Cheetaur here, I'd like to recommend a couple of web comics i'm reading that I think some folks here might like as well.

The first is a non-furry comic called "the wotch" its about a witch called Anne (in this case wotch)who just got her powers and makes a lot of mistakes with them. Her two friends Jason and Robin seem to be on the endo of most of her mistakes. Its very comical and does have a good story arc.

It can be found here and is updated MWF

http://thewotch.com/

The second is "Accidental Centaurs" Which crossed over to "the wotch" which was how i found it. The story is about two scientists who get transported to a world of centaurs and other mystical creatures, along with a sarcastic genie they have quite the adventures.

It can be found here and has been M-F for the time being although that might change in the future.

I hope you will give each a try, as you know it is difficult to do a web comic, Mark will contest to that. So give them a try and i don't think you'll be disappointed.

Sincerely Cheetaur :)

Amusing. I found The Wotch because of the crossover with Accidental Centaurs. Both are pretty good, though some of the content of Accidental Centaurs might require a little caution from Hortmage.

Ok since it seems i cannot edit my post I will add a warning

Accidental Centaurs does make comments that pertain to a more adult audience. Although there has not been any actual nudity in the strip.

If you like The Wotch you'll probably enjoy El Goonish Shive as well. Although there's no direct connection the art style is similar and there's a lot of stuff about furry and TG transformations. Mostly PG but with the occasional wry innuendo. Oh, and as for what the title means...well, you'll have to visit the site and find out, won't you?

Also be sure to check out Pablo Taylor's Wapsi Square. It started out as a comic soap opera about Monica and her wacky friends in the Twin Cities, but gradually the storylines developed more complex explorations of human relationships, but without ever getting heavy or losing their sense of fun.

Oh, and somewhere along the line Monica ran into the Aztec god of alcohol (who's now her roomie), and all sorts of supernatural weirdness ensued - some of it quite dark.

And in the four years that the strip's been around the artwork has made quantum leaps in terms of quality. Hugely recommended.

Hm, I had never seen Wapsi Square. Very well done indeed. Hope I can remember to check it now and then...

Ah, yes, the ever-reliable Phil Foglio. It's worth checking out his (long out of) print collections, Myth Adventures (based on the Robert Asprin* stories) and Buck Godot if you can find them.

Another thing I’m a bit behind on. Need to get my On Line Comics updated. In the meantime, I’ll recommend Little Dee by Chris Baldwin.

One thing to warn about Wapsi Square. While there is no nudity (none that I remember anyway) the main character, Monica, is...shall we say...extraordinarily blessed. Might not be safe for Hortmage.

On the 8-ball there, friend......

Also for all those who like their fun with hard sci-fi (most here I suspect) there's the reliable schlock mercenary another ex-Keenspot strip and very enjoyable.

We're doing webcomic reccommendations? Hmm...

Alice! A whimsical comic about a preteen Canadian girl who gets into some very odd situations.

Dominic Deegan A superb fantasy comic about a particular seer. Can get violent, and some NSFH moments, but well worth it.

Sluggy Freelance A well-made and very old comic about a boy and his psychotic switchblade-wielding rabbit. Lots of supernatural goodness, although it also has some NSFH moments.

Irregular Webcomic! An extremely well made (and regularly updated, ironically) webcomic that has several interweaving stories that occasionally merge, yet all make internal sense. And it's all done with Legos, RPG minis, and a digital camera.

Alien Loves Predator A rather bawdy comic made with action figures about an Alien and a Predator that live in New York. Oh yeah- their roommate is Jesus, who plays baseball for the Yankees.

8-Bit Theatre The cream of the crop as far as sprite comics go, this is a must for anyone that likes Final Fantasy or even just regular fantasy.

A Miracle of Science A thoughtful look at a far-future society in which mad scientists are the victims of a particular mental disorder, which is regulated by a dedicated police force. It also stars the group mind of Mars, which isn't evil.

Alpha Shade The best art I've ever seen. Ever. The storyline is still a bit fuzzy, but the art is far more than worth it.

Casey and Andy A comic about two mad scientists, one of whom dates a female version of Satan. Some NSFH material.

C'est la Vie A story about a moody French woman that lives in Los Angeles with her bubble-headed girlfriend and her chauvinistic stuffed bunny.

Radioactive Panda To quote the heading of the page, "Werewolves! Zombies! Tentacles! Robot Olives!" Another mad scientist comic. Some violence, although nothing too bad.

Order of the Stick Anyone that has even the vaguest interest in D&D and similar RPGs will love this. True comedic genius.

Zap! A very well drawn space sci-fi adventure. It includes psychics and an entire race of robot-loving mad scientists, who have blown up no less than 6 homeworlds.

Catena Mein Gott, the art in this is wonderful! A weekly comic about a house full of cats that live next door to a dog. One NSFH element: One of the main characters usually wears bodices, and looks VERY good in them.

Fur Will Fly Random human gets sucked into furry world, and life becomes very odd for all involved. Some NSFH moments.

Ozy and Millie A thoughtful and whimsical comic about two young foxes- the peaceful and Zen-like Ozy, and the brash and creative Millie. Very sweet.

Six Pack of Otters An amusing comic about an artistic lady's-man and his geeky brother. It looks like it will blend into a more anime martial arts type comic, but for now, it's a thoughtful comic that is very well drawn.

Count Your Sheep This comic made me cry, because it is so sweet yet softly sad. It's about Katie, a Calvin-like little girl who inherited her imaginary friend from her mother. Very calm, very sweet, and a unique art style. I love this comic.

Here's another one I just discovered. Only a couple of months old, so you don't have to spend hours trawling throught the archives...

On the Rocks - The story of an Antarctic penguin and his friend the polar bear. Yes, I know they don't have polar bears in Antarctica. Usually. Bold, simple art design and colouring and a fine sense of chilly humour.

I already need three more lifetimes to do all the things in this world I'd like to accomplish. If I followed some of those with the devotion that they deserve, I'd have to double that number...
